Seems like they could have built two totally awesome helo-ports at RAB and Landstuhl for that kind of money. Plus totally refurbished (again) the entire hospital and added new family housing. Voids that whole 30 min. bus-ride argument they're airing now. Transfer of incoming patients has been a problem since the first Gulf War. Why did we give up ideal hospital locations in Wuerzburg and Wiesbaden (no one knew then it was the future home of USAREUR HQ)? The traffic situation on the B270 around the Opel kreis is a nightmare EVERY weekday morning. With all the "improvements" in the Industriegebiet, I've seen no decrease in the lines of cars in the morning or the time it takes to get through there going to or coming off the autobahn. Just more traffic cameras. I hope they have brought in Albert Einstein to solve those half-hour minimum lines it takes now to get on installations.
Landstuhl and Kl have never had the sting (yet) of the effect the total completion of that North - South A62 autobahn from Trier and France would have. Traffic coming from France, Belgium, Lux, or Netherlands could avoid Kaiserslautern, Mannheim and Ludwigshafen completely if they ever finished that stretch which is now a B road. Construction ends well before Pirmasens - Zweibrucken and the beginning of B10. Basically no industry here to speak of... except that continuous revolving door of Amis, paying sky-high rents.
