Service Credit Union to provide extensive assistance to members during government shutdown

Service Credit Union will credit direct deposit or allotments for military, government service and Social Security members affected by the pending government shutdown. It will also provide a 0% loan rate with 30-day payback and a line of credit up to their direct deposit for all other government paid Service Credit Union members.

For all branches of the military, government service and Social Security members, Service Credit Union will honor their direct deposit or allotment based on the amount received last mid-month in March. For all other government paid workers, the 0% loan and line of credit will also be based on the last direct deposit received during mid-March. These lines of credit would be zeroed out at the end of 30 days so not to harm the member’s financial well being. For those qualifying and wishing to continue their line of credit will be able to do so at the credit union’s usual loan policy.

Members affected by the government shutdown are urged to call Service Credit Union’s 24/7 Live Person Service Contact Center at 1.800.936.7730 (U.S.) or 00800.4728.2000 (International) for more information or visit any of its 35 branches. For branch locations, visit servicecu.org

Now just waiting for USAA to do the same!

We have community bank...i called them and thay basicly said that I was screwed...I will NEVER EVER use community bank again. EVER! We also have an account at SCU and they were helpful about telling me how i could get a personal loan.

WOW! --- 14 years ago -

Is anyone going to take them up on their offer. I wonder how long ppl will wait to take out these 30 day loans.

Community Bank is not *required* to do anything for you. If you don't have enough in savings to get by for a week or two during this "crisis", you might have some financial issues.

Talk about a panic at the disco!!

Not worried about groceries or normal bills. We can live for 2 months on reg bill payments. Its the 3k in rent that we are worried about. Thanks for the concern tho ;)

Okay...for those of you who do a majority of your banking with Community Bank (AKA Bank of America)-IMHO if you don't change to SCU/USAA or another "military friendly" financial institution after this, then stupid is as stupid does!

AF, you are exactly right. If we were not leaving in a few months, I would. But, we are leaving, so i will not be changing.

Makes cents...lol...

BTW for those who choose to stay with Community Bank as their primary financial institution take note of how this BUSINESS was going to take care of you...NOT! SCU/USAA/Navy FCU, etc. take care of their own. Bank of America AKA Community Bank is a BUSINESS which is in the business of returning a profit to its shareholders. Whereas at the credit unions/USAA the MEMBER is the shareholder!

Good point, we will be here for a few more years and like to have one on base account. We set up with CB and I think we may change to SCU. Our main banks are USAA and Kreisparkasse but CB has not really.........well anyhow, good point, time to change

Atticus Finch --- 14 years ago -

I have an account with CB but now only for the purpose of cashing Euro denominated checks from medical/health reimbursements. Years ago you could not pay German bills through Service Federal Credit Union (old name)so it was a necessity factor. Unfortunately SCU will not return Euros to you if you cash a Euro denominated check so hence the CB savings account (with a minimum amount)! LOL...We also have accounts with two different German Banks (KSK/Deutsche Bank) but CB is usually more convenient to cash those checks.

As a side question - Why does anyone use Community Bank as their primary finaanical institution anyway? The credit union is, hands-down, the better place for everything from loans to bill payments. I dunno..just askin'!

I pay our rent and RWE via KSK off base, we have an account with the German bank for that. I wanted one on base that will CLOSE when we leave for the phone stuff since I have read/heard that even if you turn in your cancellation promptly still they take money for months. Well, if I put it in an account that will CLOSE when we leave that will be hard for them to do.
